Ba'Yom Ha'Hu: Jewish Holidays for Grownups. Part One - Fall & Winter

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

We sometimes forget that Jewish holy-day tricks are not just for kids. Our calendar is rich with occasions for study and celebration—ancient, recent, or both at the same time—which are sophisticated and profound. We will examine and try on ceremonies and learning for: Rosh Hodesh Elul (the New Year of Animals according to the Mishna); special foods & Yehi Ratzons for our table on the first night of Rosh Hashana; the Seudah HaMafseket before Yom Kippur and the joyous fast-breaking after; variations on welcoming the Ushpizin (symbolic Sukkah guests); the all-night Tikun Leil Hoshana Rabba; Thanksgiving ceremonies for American Jews; deeper meanings of Hanukka; a Seder Leil Tu B’Shvat full of ecology, Israel, and gratitude, and other s’mahot. Links to extensive liturgies and source materials will be provided. Contemplate, and Enjoy! [Please feel free to attend this session or its continuation or both]
